EN DEATHS FUNERALS See Deaths on page James "Jim" Keith Adams, 63, of Saunooke Road, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his home. A native of Byas, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Bruce and Elitha Lowe Adams. He was member and Past Master of Swannanoa Masonic Lodge A.F. A.M., and member and Past Patron of the Black Mountain Order of Eastern Star. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Oasis Shrine James K.

Adams Temple in Charlotte. After his retirement from the Asheville VA Medical Center, he worked in security at Highland Farms Health Care Center. He was a former chief and currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Swannanoa Volunteer Fire Dept. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Fox, and his granddaughter, Katelynn. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church.

He had many friends that loved him in Cherokee. Mr. Adams loved his family and community, and was a very devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sue Saunooke Adams; daughter, Sherry Adams, and a special friend of the family, Bill Jones of Asheville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Jan Adams of Fairview, and Keith and Lynda Adams of Asheville; grandchildren, Brian, Joshua, Stephen and Laura Adams, and Nicole Jones; sisters, Irene Umburger of Germantown, and Barbara Lunsford of Swannanoa; stepsister, Frances Banks of Swannanoa; brothers, Johnny and Jackie Adams of Swannanoa; and stepbrother, Ray Banks of Greenville, S.C. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.

Thursday at the Oakley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Pierce and Mr. Jerry Leatherwood officiating. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Park. Masonic graveside services will be conferred by Swannanoa Masonic Lodge A.F.

EMMA JEAN LANDRUM FRANKLIN Emma Jean Landrum, 72, of Hampton, formerly of Franklin, died Friday, May 1998. She was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Daytona Beach, Fla, a daughter of the late W.W. and Ruth Deal Landrum.

She moved to North Carolina as a child and grew up in Franklin. She was a graduate of Franklin High School in 1942, and was valedictorian of her class. She was a scientist for NASA. She graduated from Woman's College of University of N.C., in 1946 with a major in Mathematics and minor in Physics. She also received her master's degree in Physics from the College of William and Mary in 1961.

She began work July 1, 1946, with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the predecessor of NASA. She had 35 years of service with NACA and NASA. She is survived by a number of nieces and great-nieces. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Jennings Cemetery with the Rev.

Bryant Funeral Home is in charge JAMES K. ADAMS RICHARD LELAND GIBSON SFC Richard Leland Gibson, of Asheville, went home to be with his Lord and Savoir on Tuesday, June 2, 1998. He was with his loving family at home. Mr. Gibson was Richard Gibson Richard Gibson a native of Haywood County and had been a resident of Buncombe County for the past 24 years.

He was the son of the late Herbert and Beatrice Gibson. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he earned a BS degree in Business Administration. He worked in the management offices of K-Mart and in the buyer's offices of Zayer's in New York City. Mr. Gibson served in the U.S.

Army for 24 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his service, he was the recipient of two meritorious service medals. He was an active member of the Jubilee Community Church and served on the Outreach Community for seven years. Mr. Gibson is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Bernadette; his devoted daughter, Nicole; sister, Amelia Ollis; and brother, Dr.

Herbert Gibson IlI. A man of immense generosity, he served well his country and family and will be greatly missed. She was born March 24, 1915, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Howard and Effie Hoyle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude V. Moody of Haywood County; a brother, Vernon Hoyle; and a sister, Hazel Smith. She and her family relocated from Waynesville to High Point in 1956. She was employed by Grant Hosiery for 20 years and was a member of Straightway Baptist Church of High Point.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Geneva Smith and her husband, Coy, Mrs. Geraldine Langston and her husband, Don, Mrs. Brenda Call and her husband, Clay all of High Point, and Mrs. Reva Ammons and her husband, J.W., of Randleman; four sons, Weaver Moody and wife, Sarah, of Lake Tillery, Gerald Moody of Trinity, Kenneth Moody and wife, Margie, of Asheboro, and Winston Moody and wife, Debra, of Flower Mound, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Mrs.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she formerly worked at Sylco Sewing Plant, a member of Piney Mountain Baptist Church, and daughter of the late Thomas Andrew and Cordelia Gibson Elders. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Browning, who died in 1978; two brothers, Raymond and Virgil Elders; and a sister, MayBelle Gibson. Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Shuler and Sherrie Buchanan, both of Sylva; a son, Virgil Houston of Sylva; three sisters, Jessie Ray, Evelyn Williamson and Jean Stevens, all of Sylva; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Melton-Riddie Funeral Home with the Revs. Sherrill Ammons and Pat Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Tom Elders Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m.

CURTIS PAUL JONES HEPHZIBAH, GA. Curtis Paul Jones, 65, of 2530 Quail Run Drive, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia. He was born in Canton, and retired after 31 years at Augusta Newsprint in the Maintenance Department. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Storymill Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, adoring grandfather, and an accomplished craftsman, who always put his family first. Dr. Harold Ray Webb, 53, of Beech Hill Drive, Huntersville, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the Presbyterian Hospital, He was born Sept. 24, 1944, in Asheville, the son of William Webb of Leicester and the late Blancho Hawkins Webb. Harold was licensed to preach in 1964 in Leicester and ordained to preach in 1968 in Asheville.

He pastored churches in North Carolina, Virginia and Puerto Rico. In 1981, he was appointed a home missionary with the Home Mission Board serving until 1986. Harold served as Language Ministries Director with Mecklenburg Baptist Association in Charlotte for ten years. He graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville, completed college at Mars Hill College, Mars HIll, and finished as Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest with a Doctor of Ministry Degree.

For the last 15 years, he enjoyed working with internationals and developing new language church ministries in Colorado and North Carolina. Survivors are his wife, Janet Boyd Webb; a son, Mark D. Webb and wife Tammy of Charlotte; a daughter, Mrs. Candice Webb Bingham and husband Brian of Charlotte; grandchildren, Rachel Webb, Janie Webb and Chandler Bingham. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Douglas Webb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Huntersville with the Rev. Jim Royston and the Rev. James Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
