UFC Vegas 92 start time, full fight card details | Barboza vs. Murphy (2024)

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back at the Apex (for now) to stage UFC Vegas 92 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining the ESPN+-streamed event will be a Featherweight showdown between Edson Barboza and Lerone Murphy. In the co-headlining act, Welterweight contenders Khaos Williams and Carlston Harris will collide in what is sure to be a hard-hitting affair.

What’s Hot:

Edson Barboza has long been one of the most exciting strikers in all of mixed martial arts (MMA), though the Brazilian bomber has never really gotten over the hump to ever get into championship fight consideration. And at 38 years of age, the prospects of that happening seem less and less likely, unless he gets a “BMF” title fight down the road. Still, he is one of the best in the game and his 11 UFC post-fight bonus awards solidifies that a bit more. He is currently on a two-fight win streak and is out to secure his first three-fight win streak in seven years when he takes on Lerone Murphy, who is looking to crack the Top 15 for the first time in his career.

Undefeated at 13-0-1, Murphy started his UFC career with a split-draw against Zubaira Tukhugov, but has since gone 5-0 to make him one of the fastest-rising stars in the division. Along the way, “The Miracle” secured a dazzling knockout win over Makwan Amirkhani (see it here), putting everyone on notice. He’s done all the right things so far in his career, and now his is ready to take that next step. Going strike-for-strike against Barboza rarely goes well for anyone, but the fact of the matter is that Barboza may not be the vicious knockout artist he was early on in his career. Still, he does have plenty left in the tank so Murphy is going to have to keep his head on a swivel to avoid being another highlight for the Brazilian striker.

Oumar Sy and Rodolfo Bellato were scheduled for a Light Heavyweight bout before Bellato withdrew for unknown reasons and was replaced by Antonio Trocoli. Trocoli then withdrew from the fight and ultimately replaced by UFC newcomer, Tuco Tokkos.

Injuries:

Hailey Cowan suffered a broken leg and was forced out of her fight against Tamaris Vidal, prompting Melissa Gatto to get the call for the women’s Bantamweight fight. Gatto is currently on a two-fight losing streak, so she has a nice opportunity to get back on track while doing UFC a solid. As for Vidal, she is coming off a razor-thin split-decision loss at the hands of Montserrat Rendon. Tim Elliott was also set to compete at this event opposite Tatsuro Taira before he withdrew with an undisclosed injury. Taira will now face Joshua Van at UFC 302.

New Blood:

Oumar Sy will bring his 9-0 record to the UFC’s Octagon — which includes seven stoppage wins — win he takes on fellow newcomer, George Tokkos, who suffered a first-round knockout loss at UFC - Road to UFC: Singapore Quarterfinals 1 at the hands of Mingyang Zhang back in 2022. He has since won three straight fights to earn another fight inside the Octagon. Sy is a talented up-and-comer who is looking to become the next big star coming out of France, and an impressive win in his own UFC debut will go a long way in making that a reality and possibly land a spot here.

How The ‘Prelims’ Look:

We have already discussed several of the undercard fights in the previous sections, so let’s take a look at the rest of the fights that will make up the “Prelims,” shall we?

In women’s Strawweight action, Emily Ducote will face Vanessa Demopolous in the opening fight of the night. Both ladies are coming off wins over Ashley Yoder and Kanako Murata. They are both scratching and crawling trying to make enough noise to be considered for a Top 15 ranking, so they have their work cut out for them.

Both Heili Alateng and Kleydson Rodrigues are coming off losses, so their Bantamweight matchup is a pivotal one for them if they want to keep their heads above water. And the same goes for Piera Rodriguez and Ariane Carnelossi, who came up short in their previous matchups to Gillian Robertson and Lupita Godinez, respectively.

In keeping with the theme of fighters coming off losses, Victor Martinez and Tom Nolan are in that boat, too, as Martinez was knocked out by Jordan Leavitt over a year ago, while Nolan suffered the same fate at the hands of Nikolas Motta earlier this year.

Who Needs A Win Badly:

Warlley Alves was the first man to ever defeat Colby Covington, choking him out at UFC 194 way back in Dec. 2015 (relive it here). Since then, however, he has pretty much been a non-factor in the Welterweight division, going a paltry 4-7, including losing his last three fights, two via knockout. If he loses his fourth in a row when he goes up against Abus Magomedov, it could be the end of the UFC road for him. As for Magomedov, he also needs a win pretty badly here after losing his last two fights. Loser leaves town?
